The Sussmann Acquittal Shows Why the Deep State Must be Put on a Diet

May 31 showed the entire nation why the American Deep State is as corrupt as it gets. 

On that day, former Hillary Clinton campaign attorney Michael Sussmann was acquitted by pro-Hillary Clinton jurors.

As Margot Cleveland of the Federalist noted, this case proved that “the FBI is not ‘ours’ but the swamp’s.”

Cleveland added that Sussman’s acquittal came after jurors heard “overwhelming evidence that Sussmann lied when he told the then-FBI General Counsel James Baker he was providing data and whitepapers about a supposed secret communications channel between Trump and the Russian-based Alfa Bank on his own behalf, when in fact Sussmann was representing both the Clinton campaign and tech executive Rodney Joffe.”

Cleveland stressed that “It was not the verdict, however, that confirmed that the FBI belongs to career bureaucrats, high-powered D.C. elites who revolve in and out of the government as political appointees, and the families and friends of all the above.” 

Instead, Cleveland noted that “it was the speed with which the acquittal came, coupled with the in-court testimony and other evidence exposed by the special counsel throughout the prosecution that proved the FBI isn’t America’s anymore.”

Many conservatives are beginning to find out that the FBI and similar bureaucratic agencies work against the interests of Middle America. These institutions are unaccountable to voters and serve the interests of entrenched political actors in DC. 

For years, many on the Right have fallen asleep at the wheel and have naively trusted the DC bureaucracy to be an impartial institution. This might be a good assumption in theory, but in practice reality tells us a different story. 

From here going forward, it would behoove many conservatives to start distrusting the DC Swamp. On top of that, they will need to get serious about defunding, if not abolishing a host of these institutions. 

We’re entering a point of American politics where we can no longer afford to be complacent or naive about institutions that are clearly our enemies. To correct the course, drastic action will be needed to take back our country. 

And that starts by putting the Deep State on a diet.
