Will American politics ever be normal again?
It’s no exaggeration to say that America is entering politically uncharted waters.
On June 7, 2022, a California man carrying at least one weapon close to Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s home in Chevy Chase, Maryland was arrested after he told police officers that he wanted to assassinate the Supreme Court justice.
In addition to the firearm, the suspect had burglary tools.
According to a report by The Washington Post, the man was “upset over the leaked draft of an opinion that would overturn the constitutional right to abortion and also over the recent school shooting in Uvalde, Tex.”
This rage prompted the man to get a firearm to go out and assassinate a Supreme Court justice.
The stakes are very high in American politics these days. We often forget about the trumped up accusations of Kavanaugh being a rapist, which feels like eons ago. Since then, the Left has been very hyped up about Kavanaugh and other justices that were appointed during the Trump administration.
The Supreme Court balance has tilted in the conservative’s favor thanks to former President Donald Trump nominating Kavanaugh, Neil Gorsuch, and Amy Coney Barrett to the bench.
With a recent leak indicating that the Court might overturn Roe v. Wade, the temperature has only gotten hotter.
Whatever one thinks about Kavanaugh, civilized people can agree that political disputes should be handled peacefully.
Once political violence becomes more normalized in our culture, the very civilization that the Founding fathers spilled blood and treasure to create will go down the tubes.
This fate can only be avoided through strong political leadership that rejects thuggish politics and favors civilized debate to hash out grievances.
