With the monkeypox disease making its way to the United States, the US government has responded by ordering millions of doses of a vaccine that allegedly protects against the virus.
Bavarian Nordic, the biotech company that designs the vaccine, announced that the US government placed a $119 million order for the vaccines. The US government also has the option to buy an additional $180 million if it desires.
In 1958, Monkeypox was first discovered, while the first human case was documented in 1970. Some of the symptoms include body aches, exhaustion, fever, headache, and a rash that can spread across the body. In 10% of infections, monkeypox can be fatal.
The recent outbreak of this disease was first reported in Europe on May 7, 2022 in an individual who had visited Nigeria. Since the initial outbreak, 20 cases have spread across England, Portugal, and Spain.
The first case in the US was announced on May 18 and six other individuals are now being monitored. Curiously, the World Health Organization is meeting for the World Health Assembly on May 22. At the top of the agenda will be a “pandemic accord” that would vastly broaden the WHO’s powers to intervene in sovereign nations during the event of future viral outbreaks.
It’s anyone’s guess how the US government will continue responding to these cases if they proliferate across the US.
Knowing how the government has operated over the past century, it will most definitely exploit this latest outbreak in the case it reaches alarming levels.
One has to wonder what US medical policy would look like if Americans adhered to healthy dietary choices, exercised more, and embraced healthier lifestyles. Undoubtedly, Big Pharma would see its profits significantly slashed.
Plus, there would be less incentive for the state to take proactive measures on healthcare matters and try to micromanage people’s lifestyle choices.
At the end of the day, individual responsibility in addition to community accountability can create a healthier society without the state having to constantly breathe over one’s neck or having to rely on the latest Big Pharma concoctions.
This is why the powers that be do everything possible to shut down any lifestyle alternatives that promote healthy living and question conventional wisdom in medical circles. A mass embrace of those lifestyles would undoubtedly put a lot of pharma executives and public health bureaucrats out of work.
