Is the Gun Control Slippery Slope Real?

Many of the so-called political experts in the media claim that there’s a “reasonable” amount of gun control that the US must pass in the wake of mass shootings. Anyone who questions these gun control proposals by raising the valid concern about how these infringements could lead to further Second Amendment violations later down the line is labeled as a “kook”.

These enlightened minds claim that Second Amendment advocates are using a “slippery slope” fallacy when arguing against expanded gun control.  But is that really the case?

Recent events in New York state tell us otherwise.

In the wake of the Buffalo mass shooting of May 14, 2022, New York lawmakers have been scrambling to pass civilian disarmament schemes. Now, it seems that new gun control plans will be on deck.

AWR Hawkins of Breitbart News noted that New York Governor Kathy Hochul teamed up with New York State Assembly leaders to “announce ten new gun control bills, including a new minimum age and licensing requirement for the purchase of a ‘semiautomatic rifle.’”

On May 31, 2022, Hochul made a tweet where she said, “New York already has some of the toughest gun laws in the country — but there’s more work to do to keep New Yorkers safe. We are going to strengthen gun laws, give law enforcement tools to prevent crime, & stop the spread of dangerous weapons.”

Hochul published a brief overview of the new gun control proposals she is putting forward on her website:

The bills would: require information sharing between state, local and federal agencies when guns are used in crimes; make threatening mass harm a crime; require microstamping for new guns; increase accountability for social media platforms; eliminate grandfathering of large capacity ammunition feeding devices; prohibit the purchase of body armor for anyone who is not engaged in an eligible profession; strengthen the Red Flag law by expanding the list of people who can file for Extreme Risk Protection Orders, and other measures; require that an individual obtain a license, with a minimum age of 21, to purchase a semiautomatic rifle; and close the “any other weapon” loophole.

In another tweet, Hochul took on the issue of raising the age and requiring a license to acquire semi-automatic rifles. The governor stated, “The gunmen in Buffalo and Uvalde both legally purchased the rifles they used to commit mass murders at the age of 18. So we’re raising the age requirement to 21 to obtain a license to purchase a semiautomatic rifle.”

Curiously, the goalpost is now shifting. Anti-gunners would previously obsess over “assault weapons” but now they’ve broadened their targets to semi-automatic rifles.

Following the Buffalo attack, Breitbart News reported on how Hochul wanted to expand New York’s “assault weapons” ban.

Hawkins added the following shocking developments that took place in the wake of the Buffalo mass shooting:

WSHU reported Hochul wanted to expand the ban to cover ‘AOWs’ (any other weapons). Hochul contended that AOWs can be used as ‘assault weapons.’

And there you have it. First, the gun controllers were fixated on so-called “assault weapons”. Now, they’re broadening the scope of weapons they want to target to everyday rifles that lawful individuals use.

That’s the nature of the gun control beast.

When you give these people an inch, they’ll take the whole mile.

That’s why anyone who believes in the Second Amendment should not concede any ground to Gun Control Inc.

The gun controllers are playing for keeps and any incremental passage of gun control is just one step closer to their ultimate goal of civilian disarmament.

What do you think?
