Bodega Group in New York City Puts Forward “Stand Your Ground” Law Following a Fatal Stabbing

A bodega group in New York City said that the city should emulate Florida by adopting “Stand Your Ground” legislation in the wake of a Manhattan store worker being charged for murder for defending himself.

United Bodegas of America has come to the defense of Jose Alba, the 61-year-old shop employee who is facing murder charges for stabbing a violent ex-con to death in self-defense.  On July 10, this group argued that “Stand Your Ground” is necessary to protect Bodega workers.

“Bottom line — in Florida, this is what you would consider stand your ground,” declared UBA spokesman Fernando Mateo during a press conference.

Indeed, states like New York, which have cities like New York City that are filled with growing levels of crime, would benefit tremendously from Stand Your Ground laws.

It’s truly dystopian how a lawful individual is facing murder charges for exercising his right to self-defense. That’s how things are breaking down in many blue states where the rule of law is non-existent and criminals are favored by the state over lawful individuals. This completely subverts the rule of law and turns otherwise prestigious urban centers into de facto Gotham USAs. In many respects, this trend of anarcho-tyranny is putting the US on the path to Banana Republic status.

Many of the dysfunctional policies we see at the state and federal level, generally start locally. This makes it important for individuals to get politically active and hold local politicians accountable for policies that enable mass criminality and the punishment of law-abiding citizens.

What do you think?
